If you think buying gifts for women is hard, perfume can be a relatively easy choice. Unless she has a deep dislike for a particular fragrance or has some kind of allergy, it is uncommon to go wrong with a bottle of perfume.

If you opt for a famous designer fragrance or one that has recently been introduced, chances are you paid full or close to full price and that also will tell the recipient that this is something you could not have grabbed at a clearance sale six months ago.

Just as women are so different from one another, there is a myriad of perfumes to choose from. One thing you may be able to gauge without hinting that you’re thinking of a perfume for the woman in your life is her preferences in fragrances. Does she like fruity or floral, cool and crisp, or warm and royal? The easy way to ascertain this is to casually ask her what perfume she is wearing and how it smells so good on her.

You can then keep that name in mind when perfume shopping for your woman. You could play real safe by buying her another bottle of the same fragrance, but that would not really show that you went to any effort to shop for her. Better still, you could check online or ask a salesperson at the women’s perfume counter at a perfume store like Perfumania or Ulta or at department stores for their advice. Once you tell them that your lady love likes Beautiful or Pleasures or whatever other name you have, they will be able to guide you in the right direction.

You can always ask for a test of the original scent and the new one you are considering purchasing and see if they do indeed seem similar. Buying something she likes and still being creative is a sure fire way of making your present a success.

Another thing that you could do once you know about her taste in fragrances is to get some thing else with the same scent. Not a bottle of perfume, but bath salts, lotion or shower gel in her favorite fragrance will be the perfect way of giving her more of what suits her and what she opts to wear.

If your woman is a compulsive ‘returner’ than you could include a gift receipt from the store that you purchased it in case she wants to exchange the bottle or buy something from another department.

Often stores and perfume manufacturer run promotions where you can get neat make up and toiletries as bonus gifts for purchasing a certain brand. Do not make the mistake of keeping that gift and giving it to her at the next occasion. She will be able to sniff ‘free’ a 100 miles away. However, give it to her with the women’s perfume so she has more to get excited about. A new lipstick, a sampler of some other new products and a cute bag to keep it all in will be the icing on the cake.
