Selling Perfume in Parking Lots Without a Permit

Have you ever seen the people who sell things in parking lots like car stereos or perfume? They act so shady and talk so fast you would think they are selling stolen goods. But most likely they are not. They talk fast so they can say a lot in a short amount of time and in doing so end up with more sales at the end of the day. But often they are breaking the law without business licenses or solicitors permits.

What can you do about these sales people? Well you can call the police and pick up your cell phone and they will generally take off. Even if they have a permit, it will take them 15-20 minutes to explain this to the officer who will check them for wants and warrants. Good serves these folks right.

Recently, I was at a Truck Stop and this guy was talking with a lisp, assuming he was a homosexual talking to big mean looking truck drivers trying to sell them cologne and perfume. I started to laugh because first they obviously do not wear any cologne and second, talking with that accent is liable to get the poor guy hurt. The Truck Stop manager came out and yelled at him to leave the property or he would call the police again.

Apparently the guy had no permit to sell, was on private property, was not exactly around any decent target market and was causing some of the truck drivers to tell him what they really thought of his little sales games. Consider this in 2006 if you are a salesman, as it is a very good lesson indeed.
